75 NATIONAL WINES DISTINGUISHED IN THE 10TH EDITION OF THE CREDIT AGRÍCOLA WINE COMPETITION
January 12, 2024 – The winners of the 10th edition of the Crédito Agrícola Wine Competition, an initiative in partnership with the Associação de Escanções de Portugal, were revealed in a ceremony held at Estufa-Fria, in Lisbon.
In the 10th edition of the Competition, a total of 246 wines – white, red and sparkling – were submitted to the competition and put to the test by 99 national producers from the various wine regions of the country, Customers and Associates of Crédito Agrícola.
The jury, made up of oenologists, oenophiles and journalists specialized in the sector, distinguished, during the blind tastings held on October 21st, 75 wines, of which 70 with the Gold Medal, three with the Grand Gold Medal and two distinctions for Wine of Sustainable Production, the new feature presented in this edition of the Competition, under the theme of sustainability.
In the 10th edition, wines from various wine regions were distinguished: Vinhos Verdes (one medal), Douro (15 medals), Dão (nine medals), Beira Interior (one medal), Bairrada (three medals), Tejo (six medals), Lisbon (seven medals), Península de Setúbal (eight medals), Alentejo (19 medals), Algarve (five medals) and Azores (1 medal).
The Awards Ceremony, which marked the 10th edition of the Crédito Agrícola Wine Competition, was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Maria do Céu Antunes, the president of the Crédito Agrícola Group, Licínio Pina, the president of the Association of Escanções de Portugal, Tiago Paula, the president of IVV, Bernardo Gouvêa, the president of ViniPortugal, Frederico Falcão, representatives of Regional Wine Commissions, as well as producers from various wine regions and heads of Mutual Agricultural Credit Boxes across the country.
The Crédito Agrícola Wine Competition aims to promote and test the quality of national wines, seeking to generate new business opportunities and boost the communities where it carries out its work in direct contact with people. This is another initiative by Grupo Crédito Agrícola to support the wine sector, cooperatives and local producers, and the development of local economies.
