The competition took place this year in Gorizia, Friuli Venezia Giulia (Italy), from May 30th to June 2nd and, as in previous years, AMPV – Associação de Municípios Portugueses do Vinho was a partner in this event, taking a group to the competition of Portuguese tasters.
The Portuguese jury was chaired by António Ventura and made up of Helena Mira, Maria Vicente, Rodolfo Queiroz, Jorge Sampaio, Tiago Correia and Sérgio Oliveira. José Arruda, general secretary of AMPV, is part of the competition’s Scientific Committee and accompanied the delegation, as well as José Nunes Santos, councilor of the municipality of Gouveia, where the Cities of Wine national oenological competition took place this year.
The competition had 1300 participating wines, 80% Italian and 20% from 11 countries around the world, namely Israel, Lebanon, Chile and Mexico. Portugal, Moldova, Croatia, Romania, Germany, Slovenia and Luxembourg are also represented, with Portugal being the country that has brought the most wines to this international competition in recent years, after the host country, Italy.
For many years known as “La Selezione del Sindaco International Wine Competition”, this competition has since adopted the name Città del Vino International Wine Competition. It is a competition organized annually in the month of May by the Italian association of wine cities Città del Vino, with the sponsorship of OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine) and the partnership of Recevin – European Network of Wine Cities and AMPV, between other entities.
This is the only international wine competition that provides for the joint participation of the producer and the municipality where the productions come from. This relationship between municipalities and producers is one of the main differentiating factors of the competition, which aims not only to distinguish the quality of the wines but also to value the territories where the wines are produced.
Adega de Penalva was present and was extremely pleased to be awarded a GOLD MEDAL.
